Lynnhaven Inlet – Lesner Bridge Construction

posted in: safety | 0

Boaters and fishermen are being advised to remain alert during bridge construction at Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach.

Crews are currently removing about 60,000 cubic yards of sand from a proposed equipment staging area at Crab Creek and using it to replenish Cape Henry Beach. About 16,000 cubic yards of additional sediment will need to be dredged from the inlet to be used for future beach replenishment.

The Lesner Bridge construction project will take about three years to complete. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained throughout construction. The new bridge will have 45 feet of clearance at its highest point, about 10 feet more than the current bridge.

The established Notice-to-Proceed date for the Lesner Bridge Construction project was June 2, 2014. The project contract time is 1,095 calendar days and is expected to be completed in June 2017.
