The 2019 Stock Assessment and Fishery Evaluation Report for Atlantic Highly Migratory Species, better known as the SAFE Report, is now available online.
The latest SAFE report provides the public with information on the status of Atlantic HMS stocks and management developments as of the end of 2019.
Longtime readers of the SAFE Report will notice a change to the chapter structure in this latest edition.
The most significant changes relate to bycatch. Information on bycatch reduction measures and interaction data, including for the Individual Bluefin Quota Program, are now consolidated in Chapter 6, “Bycatch, Incidental Catch, and Protected Species.”
The 2019 SAFE Report also includes an appendix with descriptions of gears used in HMS fisheries, Atlantic HMS management history, and data sources.
